Watch this show if it's the last thing you do

One of the best TV shows Netflix has ever released. This show is such a beautiful representation of how love and joy should be. It is so beautifully and carefully made, with so much detail, color, and just pure happiness exuding throughout each episode. The acting and chemistry from every single person in the cast is absolutely incredible. Every single scene and storyline felt grounded and so genuine I was almost convinced it was real. This show is so refreshing and presents such a new and beautiful take on the joy of queer love that I don't think I have seen before. Please show your kids this show if it's the last thing you do!

Incredibly touching adaptation of a graphic novel series

Watched this series with my 10 and 12 year olds. We loved the story, the characters, and the LGBTQIA+ and other intersectional representation. I probably cried during every episode. 😄🤧 The kids in the series have vulnerable, honest conversations with their peers (and adults); that was so much nicer than so many of the toxic relationship/friendship portrayals I saw in media when I was a kid. Our 12 year old loves the graphic novel series as well! One trigger warning: There is an f slur uttered by an unkind student. There are also a couple of nonconsensual kisses. These choices have varying consequences and conversations that precipitate from them.

I wish I got to watch shows like this growing up!

Wholesome queer content for people of all ages to enjoy and potentially even learn some lessons in mutual respect. Be warned that the source material does get a little darker/more serious including themes regarding mental health (and so future seasons will likely include this).

NEW FAVORITE SHOW

This show was amazing and addicting! Nothing inappropriate happened in the show except for some bad words and kissing. This show is definitely appropriate for teens and preteens

Heartstopper will make your heart stop!

This show is based on a series of graphic novels by the same name. The show (and books) show an overall positive and supportive depiction of teens grappling with their sexuality, navigating changing friendships, and first love. The love story is sweet and you can't help but root for the main characters to "make it." The show doesn't shy away from bullying or people being insensitive or even homophobic, BUT there is always another character making the right decision and calling others out for their bad behavior or providing emotional support for characters affected by the bad behavior. The show has an overwhelming positive message and if you love a love story, check it out!

Learning from my kids, great examples

I loved watching this with my tween daughter. So much to talk about. The main characters are so thoughtful and expressive about their feeling but in a realistic way. I think it’s a really good example of how to treat others and apologize when you mess up, which we all do. That is how we learn. And I leaned a lot coming form an older generation that treated everything outside of a heterosexual relationship as abnormal. Opened my mind and my heart.

Wonderful teen romance

This is such a beautiful series. It's certainly for teens - there are themes of bullying and a brief moment of non-consensual kissing, but both are presented as definitively not okay. The central characters are wonderfully diverse in terms of race, gender and gender identity, and sexual orientation. At its heart, it's a great story of two kids falling in love - two kids who are both kind and intelligent and worth rooting for.
